What Happens If We Ignore Our Gut Feeling? Really!
Have you ever made a decision that did not make any logical or analytical sense? When the rest of society tells you that it has not worked, it is not working and will not work. They will give examples of people who made the decision which did not pan out. But, for you, it is like a physical barrier that prevents you from doing anything other than making the decision you are making - for you, there is no other choice.
Usually, how that works is that your first instinct is what you want to do. And then you second-guess yourself, speak to others, speak to the world, Google it, or should I now say Gen AI it? And the clarity that you had becomes cloudy. Do you know why our first instinct is so clear? At that time, we were not thinking about 'Me' - the decision was about what was good for you and what was good for the world, even if it meant you had to struggle.
As I have mentioned in my other blogs - I am an Indian girl from a conservative family who married a blonde, blue-eyed American. Did I know that I cannot NOT marry him? Yes. Did I doubt myself - Yes, a thousand times, even as I was convincing my family that he was the right one for me - I harboured doubts. I spoke with my close friends and mentors and read books, hoping for a clear sign from the Universe. But the Universe's take is probably - your first instinct was the clear sign, and I cannot be bothered if you want to confuse yourself more and tie yourself into knots.
In hindsight, convincing my family was easy—putting in the effort to build our relationship was hard work. In some cases, I had to change who I am fundamentally - but since I made the choice, I did it - put in the effort. If somebody had told me everything I would do in my life - I would not have lifted a finger or found the energy to step outside the house.
Let's summarize: We usually have an accurate gut feeling when making key decisions. That means we must evolve spiritually and become a better version of ourselves. That is very rarely a walk in the park, right? So, we go with our gut, knowing that the road ahead is challenging but rewarding and with the strong inner knowing that there is nothing else we could have done.

For a minute, let's explore what would happen if you ignored your gut feeling and did not make that decision. Would the world end? No, the Universe is a loving mother—she will ensure you eat the medicine that will make you better, even if it is bitter. If we refuse the medicine in a syrup format, then we will get it in a pill format, and if we refuse that as well, then we will be admitted to the hospital and fed it through IV. We will undoubtedly learn different lessons along the way - so it does not go to waste.
Is it possible that we are afraid that we are not up to the task? Scared of all the things we would have to give up when we make a decision. That is a natural feeling, right? Any decision comes with give and take - you must give up something to get something. That is a change which is scary and hard. I remember Satya Nadella - CEO of Microsoft, talking about his son, who had cerebral palsy and died at the young age of 25. And he shared that he learned empathy through the whole experience. Even though it was not a decision he made, it was a lesson he needed to learn.
Returning to my last blog's quote, "When the ego weeps for what it has lost, the spirit rejoices for what it has found." Put simply, you stop enjoying junk food because you have experienced the sweetness of carrots. The ego weeps because it likes junk food, but the soul loves the nourishment it gets.
So, what does it mean? Don't fret over decisions - the Universe will ensure you learn the lessons you need, and the Universe is friendly. Can you recall something similar in your life?
